A subscription-based app designed to encourage clothing reuse and resale, thus reducing waste and minimizing the negative environmental impacts associated with new clothing production. It prioritizes convenience by allowing users to shop online, eliminating the need to visit physical stores. Additionally, the app serves as a platform for creating and sharing outfit lookbooks, enhancing the overall user experience.
Problem
The fast fashion industry presents....
pressing environmental issues, including non-biodegradable waste production and excessive resource consumption. It frequently leads to subpar working conditions and low wages for a predominantly female and child workforce, resulting in cases of worker exploitation as well. This relentless demand for new trends perpetuates overconsumption, ultimately fueling a damaging cycle of waste and environmental harm.
The User
The target audience comprises Generation Z and millennials, chosen based on research showing

Their willingness to buy secondhand apparel due to its affordability.

They are also highly conscious of sustainability issues, influenced by growing concerns about global warming.

These younger generations are open to experimenting with their style, making thrifting an attractive and unique option that aligns with their desire to stand out from the crowd.

DEJANEW
The name "Deja New" for the thrifting clothing app evokes a feeling of both familiarity and novelty. The name is a play on the phrase "deja vu," suggesting a sense of recognition, while also incorporating "new" to signify fresh and unused items. The name conveys a blend of nostalgia and excitement for uncovering unique and previously undiscovered treasures.
LOGO

The logo design approach centers on the young generation, focusing on futuristic and innovative elements. Our logo's sporty, sharp, and trendy aesthetic aligns with the overall vibe of our app, which is intended to be cool, fun, and joyful for users as they curate their unique style.
Usability Issues
The first prototype of our app received positive feedback but had issues with tasks being completed quickly, possibly due to missing core screens in the user journey. Participants, all within our target market, were involved in usability tests, which included both remote and in-person sessions. These tests focused on quantitative measurements, such as task success rates and time on task, to assess usability.

Lack of interactivity and unresponsive buttons

The initial prototype lacked interactive elements, making some buttons unresponsive.

To address this, the final prototype incorporated interactions for every component, including hover interactions and "smart animations" to improve the user interface and engagement.

Missing screens demonstrating core functionality

The absence of essential screens, such as onboarding, in the initial prototype impacted usability.

The final prototype addressed this by introducing a progressive onboarding process with clear visuals and limited text.

Additionally, checkout and order placing screens were added to enhance the overall user experience.

Unresponsive components

Unresponsive components in the first prototype led to confusion and disrupted the user flow as I put an emphasis on the style and overall app appearance/structure rather than its responsive functionalities.

In the final prototype, functionality was prioritized to ensure a seamless user experience and demonstrate the product's capabilities effectively.

Layout inconsistencies + font size and styling

Layout inconsistencies, such as varying font sizes and styles, were identified in the initial prototype.

In response, the final prototype improved readability and adhered to UX design principles by ensuring consistent font styles and appropriate font sizes for better user accessibility and visual comfort.
